Laura Murphy named AAPA Sorority Women of the Year!

Laura Gardner Murphy was awarded the sorority woman of the year award at last weekend’s Scholarship & Awards brunch hosted by AAPA.

Laura epitomizes what it is to be a servant leader, not only for Kappa Kappa Gamma, but also the greater Austin community. Laura was initiated as a Beta Xi Kappa at the University of Texas in 1995, and has been a loyal alumna for many years, sharing her time and talents with both active and alumnae Kappa sisters. From the beginning, Laura has given her heart and soul to Kappa. She has served the active chapter as Panhellenic Advisor, Standards Advisor and multiple stints as Advisory Board Chair. She has served the Austin Alumnae Association in various roles, and as President in 2011. For the past 15 years, she has given tirelessly to the Beta Xi House Board, currently serving as President. From 2013-2017, Laura was hired by the Beta Xi House Board to serve as the Renovation Coordinator, raising over $6.3 million from Kappas across the nation for the complete renovation of the Kappa house that sits on the University of Texas campus. In 2009 Laura received the Outstanding Alumna Award from the Austin Alumnae Association. In addition to her contributions to Kappa, Laura currently works as a Leadership Annual Giving Advisor for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-ALSAC. She has also served the following Austin non-profits, the Austin State Supported Living Center, Explore Austin, and Communities in Schools, to name a few, and is instilling the values of giving back to her daughters. Through her actions and leadership, Laura transforms communities and we are honored to share the sisterhood of Kappa with her.
